Knee Exercise - Demi-plié

While lamenting my abused and sore knees a few months ago an exercise popped into my head, it is called a demi-plié.

While you may not be familiar with the name you will most certainly be familiar with the exercise, it is probably one of the most recognised ballet movements.

The demi-plié involves standing tall with your heels together (1st position) or hip width apart (2nd position) and your feet turned out.

You then raise and lower yourself, ensuring your knees extend over your feet.

Only bend your knees to a comfortable degree and repeat as much as you can without causing further pain. You can hold onto somethig to stabalise yourself, like a chair back or tabletop.

I use this exercise regularly for instant pain relief and to strengthen the muscles around my knees.

These YouTube videos demonstate the movement excellently.
